At the reception Diffuso Socchieve "Col Gentile." is available the route map of the town.

The district of Socchieve holds some of the most interesting pearls of arts in Carnia, such as the church of San Martino and the Castoia Parish. But is not only the building heritages what distinguish the art and the culture of this community of Alta Val Tagliamento. In fact, for over 37 years, it holds every summer the Art, Culture and Work's festival more important of Carnia. This year the event starts on July the 26th until August the 23th and hosts artisans and artists from Carnia and Fruili Region, that with their artwork they tell us the feelings of a land that with its hands and art, is able to express itself better than with words.

Carnia's Festival of Art Culture and Work

The Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo's Committee, coordinates and organize the festival that is already in its 37th year. A commitment that tries to give voice to those aspects of the culture, art and work that Friulian and Carnian people knows how to express. The opportunity for meeting and discussing, for keeping the attention focus on the small and important things in life, and living in the mountains.

San Martino Church

The beautiful small church of San Martino at Socchieve, placed at the town's center, with the Castoia Hill at its back, with its architectural structure (entrance porch, bell tower, turns of trusses, shingle roofing), represents one of the most typically Carnic sacred building.

Its heritage of art is very rich: in the sacristy and in the basement of the apse chapel there has been recently found rests of Romanesque fresco of good quality (Christ in mandorla with Evangelists symbols, fragments of the Apostles heads, decorations) that testify the oldness of the building.Further information.
